Alistair Boxall from Environment and Simon Parker (on behalf of CURB) have been successful in our application to run a British Council Researcher Links Workshop (which is part of the Newton – Al-Farabi Partnership Programme) on 'Rapid urbanisation and the environment' in Astana, Kazakhstan in late January next year. The workshop will fund early career researchers from Kazakhstan and the UK with an interest in urbanisation and the environment to spend a week in Astana. As well as giving keynote lectures Alistair and I will be facilitating career networking events with senior government officials, industry, NGOs and IGOs and the wider academic research community. The ECRs will also give presentations on their own research. Up to a third of the UK delegation (six delegates) can come from the University of York - so I hope that this might be of interest to some departmental colleagues as well as the broader social science and environmental & natural science community here. The total funding awarded for the workshop is £44,000.
