Our brilliant students are central to the Peace Lab.

The Peace Lab provides unique opportunities for UG and MA students to be involved in researching and designing innovative approaches to peace. Through this involvement, we enhance the student experience and develop the skills of the next generation of peace researchers and peacebuilders.

All our students benefit from peace-related guest lectures and events, often including practitioners. Examples of more direct student involvement in the past year include:

  1. Peace Lab sessions for MA students working on dissertations focused on peace and social cohesion. In these sessions, academic staff helped the students refine their ideas and develop posters to present their work.
  2. We were able to employ students as research interns on three projects led by academics: Conflict and social relations in Northern Ireland (Prof Anastasia Shesterinina); Memorializing gender-based violence (Dr Harriet Gray); and Pathways to Peace in Myanmar (Dr Claire Smith).

The resulting dissertation posters and research internship findings were presented at the Peace Lab launch in June 2024, to an audience of academic staff, students, practitioners and the general public. Everyone agreed that this was one of the highlights of the launch.

Student Projects

Students on our UG and MA programmes benefit from a unique student experience as we bring practitioners into the classroom and involve students directly in our research. By engaging our students in the design and implementation of innovative approaches to sustainable peace, we develop the skills of the next generation of peace researchers and peacebuilders.
