Claire Smith receives award for contribution to peace in UK-Indonesia diplomatic relations

On February 5th, Dr Claire Smith (Department of Politics and IR) received an "Ambassadors' 75th Anniversary Award" for her contribution to peace in Indonesia-UK diplomatic relations.

On February 5th, Dr Claire Smith (Department of Politics and International Relations) received an "Ambassadors' 75th Anniversary Award" for her contribution to peace in Indonesia-UK diplomatic relations. The award was jointly organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the UK, and the British Embassy in Jakarta, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Indonesia-UK diplomatic relations.
On the Peace Awards, the Indonesian Embassy stated that, "Indonesia and the UK recognize that in the 21st century we continue to face challenges that are more complex, requiring greater international collaboration. These are individuals whose works have further cemented our two countries’ shared commitments to strengthen cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international level in maintaining peace and stability and helping promote prosperity and development."
Also accepting an Ambassadors' Award under the Peace category were Sir Lindsay Hoyle (former House of Commons Speaker), Lord Tariq Ahmad (former Minister of State for South Asia and the Commonwealth), Hon Catherine West MP (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Indo-Pacific), H.E. Owen Jenkins (Director General Indo-Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, FCDO), H.E. Joelle Jenny (Ambassador to Denmark, and former Special Envoy to Myanmar), and Mr Ben Bland (Chatham House Asia-Pacific Director).
38 awards were presented to prominent parliamentarians, government officials, industry leaders, diaspora and scholars in the UK, including Lord David Cameron, Lord Zac Goldsmith, H.E. Moazzam Malik, H.E. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, and Professor Karen O'Brien (Durham Vice Chancellor).
