YPI EDI representative appointed

We would like to thank Andrew Malcolm-Neale who stood down last academic year from the role of EDI representative for his support and we would like to welcome Lena Howlett to the role.

Lena will not only be supporting YPI with their EDI agenda but will also be supporting the Fusion CDT EDI working group and the Physics department EDI working group.  

Introduction from Lena 

"I am a 3rd year CDT student at the University of York, and I am delighted to be taking over as the new student representative for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee.

I feel strongly about ensuring that all people have the opportunity to benefit from the York Plasma Institute, and that no one feels left behind or disadvantaged based on characteristics outside of their control. Many access issues are systemic, and people begin being disadvantaged long before they might apply for a PhD, but we will try to do all we can to take these into consideration and help alleviate them. A diverse group of people is also incredibly valuable for the community and the research. Furthermore, I want to ensure anyone already a student in the York Plasma Institute can have their individual needs met, feels valued and has their concerns heard.

I will be a first point of contact for any students who have concerns or comments, which I can then bring to the York Plasma Institute management team. I will also be attending meetings and working with the CDT ED&I working group and the York Physics ED&I committee.
