On Wednesday 23rd May 2018, the York Plasma Institute hosted an Industry Careers Event for MSc & PhD students and Postdocs. Panel discussions were held in the Dianna Bowles lecture theatre with networking taking place in the Biology atrium, adjacent to the theatre.
The event was a relaxed affair, panel members were asked to provide an account of their pathway from academia into industry, each provided a personal account of the application process, how the skills gained through their PhD have been utilised in their employment, an insight into their working day, what their job role entails and an outline of the the industry. These short introductions were followed by a Q&A session from the students and postdocs.
The event was supported by nine alumni of the Fusion CDT (York, Durham, and Liverpool) and two industry partners covering sectors such as Nuclear, Engineering / Engineering consultancy, Defence, Patent Law, and Outreach.
