Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication represents communication amongst different electrical/electronic devices without human intervention. M2M communication (depending on the area of application) can be realised through wired or wireless access over short or long distances. There are numerous application areas of M2M communication such as fleet management, smart metering and E-health.
The purpose of this project is to develop an efficient wireless access network for M2M devices using both existing and emerging wireless technologies. This will be achieved by exploring various related systems for short and long range wireless communications as well as details of how different short range wireless devices (e.g. sensor nodes, RFID etc.) communicate.
Both simulation and analytical techniques will be used to validate our work and the results will be compared to existing work reported in the literature.
