Enabling Secure Information Infrastructure (ESII) is an enabling contract, to conduct a broad range of research aimed at assisting UY MoD in maximising its communication capability. Funded through DSTL and managed by QinetiQ, it involves a consortium of leading industrial companies and research organisations including SMEs and academia. York has been an integral member of this consortium throughout its period, and has been actively involved in several co-operative ESII Tasks with roles ranging from Task Leader to Technical Referee. Topics dealt with at York include: VHF data capacity enhancement; Space Time coding; Dynamic Spectrum Management; BLOS (Beyond Line Of Sight) communications; WiMAX for tactical communications; MIMO applications at VHF.
ESII is being superseded by a new programme CSIIS (C4ISR Secure Information Infrastructure & Services), which will be similarly structured, and bids by York to participate in this were submitted during summer 2013.
