Introduction
The music technology labs have purpose-built studios and high quality equipment allowing for production of music and also virtual reality (VR) applications.
Virtual Reality Suite
The lab houses two workstations each with state-of-the-art equipment:
- PC per workstation with dedicated software
- Avid Artist control surfaces for hands-on mixing control
- Genelec 2029A Stereo Monitoring
- Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd Generation audio interface with Rode NT2A for vocal work
- VR Headset for use in projects involving VR and/or spatial audio
- Equator D5 Octagonal Speaker Array for project work in spatial audio and VR
Studio 1
The studio houses a Dante-enabled Audio Interface for I/O, Avid Control Surface and all the equipment for recording and mixing, including numerous DAW Software such as Cubase, Nuendo, Ableton, Reaper and ProTools.
- Avid S3 Control Surface
- Dante Enabled Focusrite Rednet A16R Audio Interface provides 16 channels of audio input and output
- Focusrite Octopre Dynamic x2: 16 channels of microphone preamplification with analogue compression on every channel fed from the Live Room
- Yamaha NS10 Stereo Monitoring: a studio staple loudspeaker for critical evaluation of your mix
- Genelec 8040 BPM 5.1 Monitoring accompanied by a 7060B subwoofer for extended low end
- Rode NT2A Multi-pattern Condenser Mic for vocal or instrumental tracking in the control room
- 65” Monitor can be used for Sound to Picture work
- Nord Stage 2 Synth: high-quality synthesizer with analogue modelling that can by controlled via USB for use as a sound module
- Nord Piano 2:. a high-quality electronic piano with 88-key fully weighted keyboard
Live Room
The Live Room space is linked to both Studio 1 and Studio 2. A range of microphones, amplifiers, drums and guitars are available for your use.
- Pearl Visio Birch Drum Kit. A six piece kit, with a selection of cymbals and snare drums, is available for recording work.
- Electric guitar, Laney and Vox amps, bass guitar and amp, classical and acoustic guitars are available for your use in your recording session.
- Moog MiniMoog - an original classic analogue synth (audio example).
- Fender Stratocaster MN available for studio recording
- Vox AC30 all-valve guitar amp. Available for studio recording
- Takamine acoustic guitar, available for studio recording
- An HD monitor that can mirror the HDTVs in Studio 1 or Studio 2; very useful for sound-to-picture work
Studio 2
This is another studio as part of the lab space. It is a mirror image of Studio 1 but has varying kit.
- Avid S3 Control Surface - provides hands-on control of your audio mixes
- Dante-enabled Focusrite Rednet A16R Audio Interface provides 16 channels of audio input and output
- SPL Goldmic Stereo Preamp is a high quality 2 channel tube preamplifier for tracking vocals or instruments in the control room
- Focusrite Octopre Dynamic x2: 16 channels of microphone preamplification with analogue compression on every channel fed from the Live Room
- Yamaha NS10 Stereo Monitoring: a studio staple loudspeaker for critical evaluation of your mix
- Genelec 8040A 5.1 Monitoring can be used to mix video in surround
- Samsung 55” UHDTV is driven by the studio PC, so can be used for sound-to-picture work or simply as a second screen
- Dave Smith Instruments Prophet-6 - A 6-voice polyphonic analogue synth connected by USB to the studio PC, so can be used as a sound module (audio example)
- Nord Piano 2: a high-quality electronic piano with 88-key fully weighted keyboard
