Profile

Biography

My academic life began at Manchester University where I undertook a BSc (Hons) in Psychology between 1969 - 1972. I then went on to Oxford University to do a BPhil in Philosophy. Between 1975-76 I was a lecturer in Philosophy at Wadham College, Oxford University. Following this, I moved to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, USA, to take up an assistant professor role from 1977-79. I then returned to the UK in 1979 and became a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of York. I also undertook my DPhil in Philosophy at Oxford University in 1981. In 1997 I was promoted to senior lecturer at York, where I stayed until 2007. I was made an emerita professor in 2007.

Overview

My research interests lie in the Philosophy of Wittgenstein, Scepticism, the philosophy of John McDowell, and the philosophy of Mind.
