Tune in next week when our own Dr Katie Slocombe (pictured left) will be appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage, hosted by Brian Cox and Robin Ince. With guest comedian Ross Noble guaranteed to provide a surreal counterpoint, Katie and fellow guest Dr Keith Jensen (University of Manchester, right) will be addressing the ever-controversial question: are humans uniquely unique? The programme airs Monday 14th July at 4.30pm and is repeated on Tuesday 15th July at 11.00pm.
If you miss the broadcast, you can catch up via the podcast or the BBC iPlayer (available after the programme airs).
The title of the light-hearted science show seems unusually apt on this occasion as Katie’s research involves investigating primate communication, both in the wild and, from time to time, in large enclosures at the zoo. You can find out more by watching the video below. Of course, to be pedantic, much of Katie’s work focuses not on monkeys, but on apes including chimpanzees, our closest relatives.
