The University of Cologne offers 5 postdoctoral positions and 20 graduate internships (PhD candidates) within the Collaborative Research Centre 806 "Our Way to Europe: Culture-Environment Interaction and Human Mobility in the late Quaternary" (chairpersons: Prof. Dr. Jürgen Richter, Prof. Dr. Martin Melles and Prof. Dr. Frank Schäbitz, University of Cologne).

The research centre (SFB 806) comprises 22 research programmes with about 80 participating scientists from the Universities of Cologne, Aachen and Bonn. The centre is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) from July 2013 to June 2017. Research of the CRC includes a broad range of disciplines, such as Physical Geography, Geology and Mineralogy, Geophysics, Geoarchaeology, Palaeolimnology, Prehistoric Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology.

The University offers the opportunity to conduct research in a dynamic interdisciplinary environment involving national and international partners in Africa, the Middle East and several European Countries. Fluency or nearly fluency in English is required and knowledge of German is recommended. 

The positions are available from July 1st 2013 or January 1st 2014 for four years (postdoc) and three years (graduate internships) subject to satisfactory progress reviews after 12 and 24 months.

Applications from highly qualified candidates with PhD-degrees and Master's degrees (or equivalent) within the given disciplines or related subjects are invited. Renumeration for the postdoc positions is based on level E13-TV-L (full-time), for the graduate internships on level E13-TV-L (up to 60 %) of the German public service salary scale.
