Jon Greenwood, Director of Commercial Services at the University, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to higher education.

Jon joined the University of York in 2004. As Director of Commercial services he oversees a range of University services, including catering, conferences, retail, sports, design and marketing and manages around 600 members of staff.

Jon has an MBA in facilities management and is also Director of York Science Park. Before joining the University of York he was Managing Director at Lost Boys Limited, a remote location retailer primarily trading in areas of the Highland & Islands, Scotland, Ireland and other communities.

Jon said: “It is a very proud moment to be honoured with such an award. To have something like this happen to you is quite emotional, especially when it is totally out of the blue and for what you do normally every day.

“I’d like to thank everyone in the HE sector, colleagues at York, the various charities I am involved with and friends and family alike. It really is fantastic to get a bit of recognition like this.”
