Professor Tendler, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost, will take over from Dr Alison Birkinshaw, Principal of York College, who has chaired the partnership for the last two years.
The Higher York Partnership is funded for at least a further year. The main focus of work will continue to be forging links with the local economy, leading to more and better graduate-level jobs. It will also retain strategic oversight of areas including relations between students and the community.
The partnership will bid for further funds from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to carry out targeted outreach work in local schools where there are low levels of participation in higher education.
Dr Birkinshaw said: “It has been a pleasure to chair this very active partnership, of which I will remain an enthusiastic member. The partnership has enjoyed great success in recent years and is involved in a wide range of activities.
“It was particularly pleasing to win significant funds from HEFCE to increase the collaborative outreach work we do in local schools. As a result, Higher York partners are now working together in a larger number of schools across York and North Yorkshire than ever before.”
Professor Tendler said: “Alison is a hard act to follow, and I pay tribute to the skilful way in which she has chaired the partnership for the past two years. I look forward to continuing her good work.
“The fact that we have continued to invest in the partnership is testament to the value we all place on working collaboratively for the good of our institutions, our students, and the local community.”
