Our International Pathway College will ensure international students are fully prepared for progression to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at the University.
Formed in partnership with Kaplan, a leading global education company, the new Pathway college is likely to generate 359 new jobs and an annual £16.6 million boost for the York economy.
The University will control entry requirements, academic quality and tuition, and all teaching staff are employed by the University. The highest academic standards will be maintained, with Kaplan providing high-level support services for students before they arrive, through their time at the Pathway College, and during their transition to their University degree.
Students can pursue Foundation and Pre-Masters courses in business, law, social sciences, science, engineering and a range of other areas.
We will accept the College’s first students on campus in September, 2016. Initially, they will be based in an existing University building on Heslington West, then in a new, purpose-built piazza building on Heslington East from 2017.
The new building will provide additional teaching capacity for around 1,400 students, which will include the International Pathway College and space for our thriving Management School.
An initial agreement with Kaplan is enabling 60 international students to prepare for our degree programmes at Kaplan’s pathway college in London this October, with a view to progressing to the University of York in October 2016.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Koen Lamberts, welcomed the partnership with Kaplan, saying: “The International Pathway College demonstrates our vision to create the UK’s most rigorous university preparation programmes providing excellent preparation for life as a full-time student at the University of York.”
The 2016/17 academic year will see a total of 270 Foundation Certificate and Pre-Masters students studying at York, rising to almost 450 at full capacity in 2018/19.
Linda Cowan, MD of Kaplan International Colleges, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the University of York, a Russell Group university that is globally recognised for excellent teaching and cutting-edge research. With its strong focus on providing a supportive and stimulating environment for their international students, the University is a natural partner for Kaplan International Colleges.”
