Posted on 11 March 2014

A new annual event at the University of York will bring the latest developments in television and feature film to the doorstep of people working in Yorkshire, the North East and beyond.

Aimed at professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of TV and feature film, the Production Convention (TPC) will be presented by the University, Heslington Studios and the Royal Television Society (RTS).

The 2014 Production Convention will take place on 2 April and promises to combine a practical academic and industry professional led conference, with an exhibition showcasing the latest innovations in production, broadcasting and distribution. Exhibitors will include JVC, Holdan, Visual Impact, iAcoustics, AVC, Pixel Power, Triple Play, BB Stratus and Live Box.

Highlights of the free event will include a range of masterclasses, talks and demonstrations, such as hands-on experience of making a quiz programme in a five-camera studio, top tips on how to become a successful TV researcher and a rigging lighting demonstration. The event will also feature creative lighting, new camera systems, media training, and interactive media content creation and distribution. Those attending will also benefit from valuable networking opportunities.

Mike Best, Chair of RTS’s Yorkshire Centre, said: “The launch of the Production Convention is excellent news for the Yorkshire region. By bringing people working and researching in this area together, it will foster and promote further innovation.”

The event will be held in the University’s superb £30m Department of Theatre, Film and Television building, which is also home to Heslington Studios, the department’s commercial arm.

Carole Dove, Commercial Director of Heslington Studios, said: “This is a first for York and we are excited to be offering really useful and relevant masterclasses to those working in the TV and film industry.

“Visitors will be able to learn about new developments which are shaping the industry, interact with the latest technology, experience groundbreaking demonstrations and take part in tutorials. The Production Convention is the event not to be missed for anyone involved in the delivery, management and creation of content.”

The Production Convention will take place on 2 April 2014 from 9.30am to 6pm in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television, on the University’s Heslington East campus. Entrance is by free ticket. For more information and to book visit www.theproductionconvention.co.uk
