We the Owners: Employees Expanding the American Dream features the founders and employee owners from three innovative employee-owned businesses: New Belgium Brewing, Namasté Solar, and DPR Construction. Each has a different employee ownership model but is driven by common principles such as a strong belief in their people and the community.
The film, which highlights what people can achieve when working together with common goals of work-place democracy, shared responsibilities and rewards, as well as a focus on collaborations across groups, will be screened on Monday, 11 March at the Ron Cooke Hub.

Mary Ann Beyster, Executive Producer, said: “The film captures the inspiring stories on founding companies, expansion, succession, recruitment and redundancies. These real-world stories demonstrate how to build and share ownership, link risk and reward, and work collaboratively to be profitable, innovative and sustainable. The companies illustrate a needed business model for the next century.”
Professor Andrew Pendleton, an employee ownership expert from the University’s York Management School, said: “Now more than ever, the UK needs to use every mechanism available for building and growing more businesses to achieve high financial performance, provide good jobs and rewarding careers. This film brings to life how employee ownership can contribute to this goal.”
The film screening will take place on Monday, 11 March at 1.15pm at the Ron Cooke Hub, Room RC204. For more information on the screening or to book a place, contact Gill Cutting on gill.cutting@york.ac.uk.
