The York Settlement Trust has supported the University for many years, underwriting the purchase of academic journals, offering student prizes and promoting the value of quality education to all.
The past seven years have seen us develop a friendship with the Trustees which we hope will continue beyond this donation as we continue to embrace aspiration raising for York adults

In 2004, the Trust extended its commitment to the University by awarding a substantial grant to support the Centre for Lifelong Learning’s outreach initiatives in the city, sharing the vision of making the University accessible to the local community. To mark this donation, a plaque was erected in honour of Alf Peacock, secretary to the Trust, at the King’s Manor.
Now the CLL has received its final grant from the Trust, as it concludes proceedings to dissolve as a charitable entity. The Centre’s staff met Trust representatives to receive a cheque for £110,000 in support of future community activities.
Reflecting on decades of lifelong learning events in York, Stephen Sayers, on behalf of the Trust, said: “This gift to the Centre provides the Trustees with an appropriate conclusion to their activities by keeping the spirit of the York Educational Settlement alive and well in the heart of the city.”
Lesley Booth, Head of Lifelong Learning said: “Once again, the Centre was delighted to received this gift – the past seven years have seen us develop a friendship with the Trustees which we hope will continue beyond this donation as we continue to embrace aspiration raising for York adults.”
