University chef in the mix for top awards

Posted on 5 May 2011

The University of York’s Executive Chef Andrew Wood is in the mix to win an accolade at the prestigious 2011 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards.

He has been shortlisted in the Cost Sector Chef award and will join other talented chefs from across the UK at a ceremony on 2 June at the new Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London. The winners of the 14 categories of the celebrated Craft Guild of Chefs Awards, including the new People’s Choice award, will be announced that night.

I am thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a fantastic accolade

Andrew Wood

Andrew Wood said:  “I am thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a fantastic accolade. It’s great to have your efforts recognised, especially through something as well respected as The Craft Guild of Chefs Awards, and for me it is a huge honour.”

The event will include the presentation of a Special Achievement Award, reserved for one exceptional personality who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry as a whole. Last year’s went to Pierre Koffmann, one of less than a handful of chefs in the UK to have been awarded the ultimate three Michelin stars for his restaurant, La Tante Claire.

The theme for the 2011 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards is ‘Bursting with Talent’, aiming to reward leading chefs from across the industry, whether they work in a village pub, fine dining restaurant, city university or in contract catering.
