The open day on Monday, 9 May 2011 will provide a chance to learn more about the innovative programme, which offers modules tailored for those working with working age adults, children and adolescents, and older adults. A special feature of the course is a module targeted at practitioners dealing with patients with physical health problems.
The course is designed for clinical practitioners who have already completed training as a healthcare professional with at least one year’s relevant post qualification clinical experience. Applicants will have an active clinical role in primary or secondary care, physical healthcare settings, prisons or Improving Access to Psychological Therapies services.
The programme offered by the University’s Department of Health Sciences provides a number of flexible training options – a three year MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Advanced Practice, a two year Postgraduate Diploma and a one year Postgraduate Certificate. There are also a number of independent modules. The Postgraduate Diploma enables practitioners to apply for British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accreditation.
Professor Simon Gilbody, of the Department of Health Sciences and the Hull York Medical School, said: “The new programme puts the Department of Health Sciences at the leading edge of training in evidence-supported psychological therapies.
“It provides high quality Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training and education linked to the latest research developments. Thanks to the flexible options available, it is suitable for those requiring both introductory level training, as well as those who wish to develop their skills further to deal with more complex issues.”
