Archaeology was ranked first overall in the country. Other subjects at York which are in the top ten nationally are: Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electronics, Linguistics, and Social Policy.
Departments which ranked in the top ten for teaching were: Archaeology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Education, Linguistics, Mathematics, Music and Social Policy.
In the 2010 NSS, students also ranked York in the top 20 for the organisation and management of their courses and the academic support that they receive.
