Bus brings cookery lessons to the University

Posted on 15 February 2010

Students will have the chance to learn how to eat well on a budget when the Cooking Bus visits the University of York.

The Cooking Bus, an articulated lorry that transforms into a cookery classroom, will be on campus this week with its staff teaching students new recipes and offering advice on food budgeting.

Students who take part will be encouraged to cook with their friends as a way of passing on what they have learned.

We have had a very enthusiastic response

Jill Ellis

Jill Ellis, Manager of the Student Support Office, said: “We have had a very enthusiastic response from students to the visit of the Cooking Bus.

“Being able to cook a healthy meal from scratch is an important life skill that also helps make the most of a limited food budget.”

The Cooking Bus is operated by Focus on Food, a campaign to promote better eating habits through the teaching of cookery skills.

The visit of the Cooking Bus was made possible with support from the York Annual Fund.
