Waste management and recycling company Yorwaste will be working in partnership with the University to remind students and staff about the importance of recycling as much of their waste as possible.
The University is looking forward to working with Yorwaste to promote and introduce recycling facilities within academic and office areas, as well as continue the excellent recycling with the students in residential areas

The University will receive a rebate of £15 for every tonne of material that is successfully recycled. It is part of a new five-year, £1 million contract awarded to Yorwaste to collect all the waste generated by the University.
Previously, Yorwaste collected recyclable materials from the University, such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and cans. But it will now also collect general, non-recyclable, waste that currently goes to landfill. This service has previously been provided by City of York Council.
The University will work with Yorwaste to introduce recycling of different types of waste streams, adding more innovation to how the waste is segregated.
The materials will then be taken to Yorwaste's Hessay's Materials Recycling Facility on the outskirts of York where they will be separated and then baled up to be sold to the recycling markets.
General waste will be taken to Yorwaste's integrated waste management site at Harewood Whin in York. Any material within this waste that cannot be recycled will be put into landfill, though both Yorwaste and the University are aiming to reduce the amount of landfilled waste year on year.
David Coates, Yorwaste's Area Operations Manager, said: "We have worked successfully with the University of York to recycle thousands of tonnes a waste over the last few years and hopefully now we are providing a full collection service, we will increase these rates even further."
Yorwaste will be taking the opportunity to discuss the new waste collection service with new students at Freshers' Week in October.
Jill Taylor, of the University's Campus Services, said: "The University is looking forward to working with Yorwaste to promote and introduce recycling facilities within academic and office areas, as well as continue the excellent recycling with the students in residential areas.
"Yorwaste operate within the York area and this will support the University's sustainability aims and objectives."
