University of York improves world ranking

Posted on 8 October 2009

The University of York has achieved its highest-ever position in the world’s top 100 universities in new rankings published today.

The University has risen to equal 70th in the Times Higher Education – QS World University Rankings. The league ranks the leading 500 of the world’s 30,000 universities.

To achieve this level of world recognition in such a short time is exceptional

Professor Brian Cantor

York receives high praise from more than 9,000 academics worldwide, and was ranked 46th in the world by employers, more than 3,200 of whom responded to the THE-QS survey, reflecting the increasing importance they attach to the rankings.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Cantor said: "This is a superb outcome which reflects great credit on the commitment of our dedicated staff and the quality of the education that we provide. The University is less than 50 years old, and we have been in the THE-QS world top 100 for several years running. To achieve this level of world recognition in such a short time is exceptional."
