I’m thrilled that the University of York is hosting Carol Ann Duffy as part of the Literature Festival
Miles Salter
The fortnight long festival starting on 1 March will celebrate the rich and diverse literary activity in the York area. The festival is a chance to hear about the work of successful creative writers as well as an opportunity to get hands-on writing experience with taster sessions and master classes.
One of the highlights of the festival will be on Thursday 6 March when Carol Ann Duffy speaks at a free event in the University of York’s Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. It will be her first appearance in York for more than two years, and is being organised by the University of York’s Department of English and Related Literature.
Miles Salter, festival organiser, said "I’m thrilled that the University of York is hosting Carol Ann Duffy as part of the Literature Festival. It’s a great bonus for the University, for York and for the Festival."
The University will also host other events including a lecture by Professor Hugh Haughton entitled Where Are The Poets Of World War II? The University is also promoting a series of Lifelong Learning Workshops at various locations across the city.
Fiona Shaw who is currently the Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at the University of York, and has written about York in her novel The Sweetest Thing, will be appearing during the festival. Lizzie Linklater one of the University of York’s Creative Writing tutors will be leading creative writing sessions at York Libraries.
