University of York led national business engagement network set for Commons launch

Posted on 10 April 2008

A new business engagement network, The Training Gateway, led by the University of York, will be launched at a reception in the House of Commons in July.

Former Science and Innovation Minister, Lord Sainsbury, and the chairman of the Commons Trade and Industry Select Committee, Peter Luff MP, will host the event on 14 July.

The Training Gateway, which recently accepted its 500th member, connects the business community to every UK university to enable them to procure high quality corporate and professional training.

We’re delighted the network has proved so successful

The network, which won a Strategic Development Fund grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), will launch its business-facing portal in the summer.

The Training Gateway has already started distributing tenders with requests from as far afield as Dubai and Brazil for training programmes for a wide variety of staff, including air traffic controllers, oil exploration engineers and senior public sector managers.

Amanda Selvaratnam, CEO of The Training Gateway, said: "We’re delighted the network has proved so successful. UK universities currently account for only around 5 per cent of the UK’s total training spend of £33 billion. We recognise that it’s about time UK industry profited from the extremely high standard of education and training for businesses that our university system has to offer".

If you would like to contact the network for further information or to source training from the UK’s universities please contact Amanda Selvaratnam on 01904 435360 or e-mail info@thetraininggateway.co.uk
