The original music to the smash-hit Pirates of the Caribbean films, composed by Hans Zimmer, has never before been performed in the United Kingdom. But at York Proms, the York Film Orchestra, formed specially for the event using some of Yorkshire’s finest musicians, gets its hooks into the original score.
Conductor George Hudson said: "This is an incredible coup for the York Film Orchestra and York Proms. The fact that we are able to perform the live premiere of this fantastic score in Rowntree Park on June 16 shows that York Proms will be unique, and of the highest quality."

The Pirates of the Caribbean premiere will take its place amongst a cornucopia of some of the greatest film music ever written, including the James Bond Theme, E.T., Superman, Lord of the Rings and many more. The event finishes with a dramatic Last Night of the Proms Finale, in front of an audience of 3,500 people.
George Hudson added: "The orchestra will be preceded by a huge variety of the city’s best performance groups across three stages, with the music set to breath-taking visual effects. With 8 metre columns of fire, stage pyrotechnics, and 500 fountain jets launching 22,000 litres of water into the air, York Proms will be a spectacular event."
York Proms is supported by the University of York and is being staged by arrangement with City of York Council and the BBC. Entrance is by ticket only, available from www.yorkproms.com, or by phone on 01904 644194. Prices range from £5 to £30.
