University showcase for writer’s ghostly encounters

Posted on 16 April 2007

Journalist and writer, Will Storr, will visit the University of York on this week to talk about his recent book "Will Storr vs The Supernatural".

The talk is hosted by the Anomalous Experiences Research Unit (AERU), which was established in 2006 in the University’s Department of Sociology. The unit aims to develop new and interesting approaches to studying what have been termed ‘anomalous’ or paranormal, experiences and related phenomena.

Will Storr’s book is an entertaining account of his search for the truth about ghosts, It takes an initially sceptical Storr on an unexpected journey that turns from amusement to nightmare as he encounters spectral ghost lights, suburban possession and demonic ‘growling’.

The experience challenged his preconceptions and he will share it with his audience at his talk on Friday 20 April at 1.30pm. There will be an opportunity for questions afterwards.

Will Storr has previously written for the Independent and Observer newspapers and magazines such as Face and Arena magazines, and has been voted ‘New Journalist of the Year’ and ‘Feature Writer of the Year’.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be in C/A/101, Chemistry Lecture Theatre on the Heslington campus of the University of York. Spaces are limited and anyone wanting to reserve a place should contact exploringtheextraordinary@yahoo.co.uk.
