Researchers at the Stockholm Environment Institute at the University devised the game, with the excitement of bingo and the fun of a pub quiz, to bring a light-hearted focus to a serious issue.
Climate Bingo aims to raise awareness of climate change issues with a question for each number called. The questions cover climate change and different aspects that contribute to our carbon footprint such as energy, travel and waste. The player selects the answer from a multiple choice selection.
Questions include:
How much do cows breaking wind contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions?
A. 4%(Answer: A)
How much carbon does an average UK person emit each year in weight? Equivalent to the weight of:
A. 2 Hippos(Answer: B)
Which country has suggested placing giant mirrors in space to block sunlight and stop global warming?
A. USA(Answer: A)
Which country has the most climate polluting power stations in Europe?
A. Poland(Answer B)
Climate Bingo is being launched to mark World Environment Day which this year focuses on the effects that climate change is having on polar ecosystems and communities, and the ensuing consequences around the world.
Dr Gary Haq, the game’s creator and coordinator of Climate Talk - a one-year campaign to raise awareness of climate change -- said: "Climate Bingo provides a fun way to communicate climate change issues to the public, raise awareness and inspire people to take action and make a difference."
The game is available for free to the public and can be downloaded from www.climatebingo.co.uk.
