The awards won by York companies were:
Professor Brian Cantor, Vice-Chancellor of the University of York, which is in the world’s top 50 universities for Biomedicine in the Times Higher Education Supplement rankings, said: “These awards demonstrate York’s strength in Bioscience – both in terms of the University’s ability to generate original solutions and commercialise them and in terms of the city's capacity to support high-quality business start-ups.”
The Entrepreneur of the Year award for identifying and exploiting a new business opportunity went to Imagel for the development of a gel to help doctors to target cancer tumours more efficiently therefore sparing patients some of the side effects of radiotherapy.

Bioniqs Ltd was named Young Company of the Year, for demonstrating exceptional business development. Bioniqs developing a new generation of non-toxic, non-flammable and biodegradable solvents.
The award for International Achievement was presented to Paraytec Ltd for its work in gaining global recognition for the company’s contribution to life and analytical sciences. Paraytec develops miniaturised tools for chemical and biological analysis. All three are University of York spin-outs.
A fourth York company, Avacta Ltd, which is also based on the Science Park, won the Recognition of Advancement award for a demonstrating growth, developing collaborative partnerships and attracting funding in the national arena.
