The festival, the first ever Langwith College Arts Festival, will take place this Saturday, 26 May in Langwith College on the University’s Heslington campus.
During the day a range of student societies, including the Dance Society, Pantomime Society, Afro-Caribbean Society and Juggle Society will entertain visitors along with music from a Jazz band and a Barbershop quartet.
There will also be energetic performances from the break-dancing team ’Gravity Control’ and ’Samba York’ and a talk by Karin Greenhead, an expert on ’Movement in Music’.
Saturday’s festival accompanies a month-long exhibition in Langwith’s Norman Rea Gallery hosting an array of paintings, sculpture and photographs based on the interpretation of ’Movement’, from its appearance in the environment to figure-based work and conceptual pieces. Curated by University of York students, the exhibition will display work by students from across the city, including the University of York, York St John University and York College.
The festival will be open from 10am to 4.30pm on Saturday. With something for everybody, the day promises to be an event not to be missed.
