Research awards opportunity at the University of York for international students

Posted on 10 January 2006

Two prestigious Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards at the University of York await outstanding candidates from developing countries.

The awards, which are worth a total of £90,000 each and cover the cost of international student fees and maintenance, are for students wishing to undertake research in the Physical or Social Sciences, and who plan to start their research in October 2006.

UK Research Councils and industrial partners meet the costs of Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards. This year, the awards available at York are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council, and the industrial partner is BP.

The Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award scheme was launched by the Prime Minister in November 2003. Its aim is to bring outstanding students from India, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, Brazil, Russia and the developing world to the UK to study for a PhD degree in top-rated research environments.

The deadline for applications to York is 28 February 2006.
