Interest Grows in University of York Finance Fair

Posted on 23 October 2006

Students who want to work in the financial sector will have the chance to enhance their job prospects when the University of York plays host to 15 major employers from the world of commerce this week.

The University of York Finance Fair on Wednesday 25 October 2006, organised jointly by the University Careers Service and the student-run Club of Politics, Economics and Philosophy (Club of PEP), will build on the success of last year’s inaugural event. It will give students the chance to meet representatives from major financial sector companies.

More than 1,000 students visited last year’s event which featured 11 employers and the 2006 Fair promises to be bigger still.

It provides York students with a unique opportunity to compare different employers while gaining a more general insight into the industry. Employers attending include Morgan Stanley, Norwich Union, and Fair sponsors Capital One.

As students from the Club of PEP have discovered, securing an internship or graduate job can be tough, such is the ferocity of competition. But third year PEP student organiser Karl Bagga said: “We now know that students grasp the Finance Fair as an excellent opportunity to network! The contacts they make at the Fair can prove to be invaluable during the application process and in preparation for a first round interview.”

The Finance Fair will be held in Goodricke Dining Hall at the University of York from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm on Wednesday 25 October.
