The University will play host to 11 major employers from the world of commerce at the event on Wednesday 19 October 2005.
We are hoping students can use the Finance Fair as an opportunity to network
Michael Nicolaides
It has been organised jointly by the University Careers Service and the student-run Club of Politics, Economics and Philosophy (Club of PEP) and will give students the chance to meet representatives of major finance sector companies.
The Careers Service and the Club of PEP are hoping that the Fair will provide York students with a unique opportunity to compare different employers while gaining a more general insight into the industry. The employers include the Bank of England and international investment bank Deutsche Bank as well as firms with a strong York presence, such as Norwich Union. The Fair has also attracted the interest of the so called 'Big Four' accountancy firms: PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloittes, Ernst and Young and event sponsors KPMG.
As students from the Club of PEP have discovered, securing an internship or graduate placement is tough, such is the ferocity of competition. But third year PEP student organiser Michael Nicolaides said: "We are hoping students can use the Finance Fair as an opportunity to network. The contacts they make at the Fair could prove to be invaluable during the application process and in preparation for a first round interview."
The Finance Fair will be held in Central Hall at the University of York from 11am until 3.30pm on Wednesday 19 October.
This event is a joint initiative of the University Careers Service and the student led Club of PEP and is intended to be an annual event.
