'The Art of Bioscience: perception and reality' will take place at the Guildhall, York City Centre, on Thursday 12 August from noon until 6.30pm. Admission is free and the event is suitable for all ages.
The objective of the event is to present the reality of science and scientists in an informal and enjoyable setting. Visitors will be able to browse a photo gallery displaying images of real-life CNAP scientists and the scientific environments in which today's science is performed. This insight into the scientific environment will be extended through a replica of a laboratory bench, complete with common laboratory equipment.
Take a closer look. Interactive activities will encourage the public to experience science for themselves. Fancy coming eye to eye with a bed bug? One of the activities on offer will allow participants to explore in detail the hidden dimensions of the microscopic world. The impact of bioscience on daily life will be highlighted using common examples from the home and food industry, and not so common applications of plant-related products such as clothes made from nettle fibres and plant pots made from potato skins.
CNAP Director, Professor Dianna Bowles said "We are delighted to be working with Yorkshire Forward in promoting bioscience in Yorkshire. This event shows how interesting and relevant bioscience is to everyday life."
Executive Director for Business, Susan Johnson said, "Yorkshire Forward are committed to raising the profile and the understanding of the biosciences amongst the general public and see this event as the first step in this direction; we are also delighted to be working so closely with CNAP on this programme."
