The Music Technology group's exhibit, 'Surrounded by Sound: A Sonic Revolution' begins to answer the question of how we can manufacture electronically an acoustic world that is indistinguishable from what we normally hear around us. They do this by examining the use of cinema-style multi-speaker surround sound, personalised sound over headphones, and the recorded characteristics of both real and virtual rooms.
The Green Chemistry Group in their exhibit, 'Greening the Chemical Industry' will highlight the need for the chemical industry to develop ever-cleaner production processes. The exhibit will show ways in which 'greening' can be achieved. Interactive displays will show the benefit of environmentally-friendly catalysts and the concepts behind them.
Open to the public and free to enter, the Summer Science Exhibition is a once-a-year opportunity not only to see the latest in cutting-edge science from the UK and abroad but also to talk to the scientists about their work and how it might improve our lives in the future.
Executive Secretary of the Royal Society, Stephen Cox said: 'This year's Summer Science Exhibition really does have the very best of science on show and is a highlight of the UK's science calendar, attracting thousands of people every year. The teams from the University of York went through a rigorous selection process and have done extremely well to be amongst the 23 selected.'
