£5m in latest research awards

New research grants and contracts received by the University of York in the last few months total £5,225,000. The University's total research income from grants and contracts is now worth around £24 million a year.
New grants include:
- £50,226 from the Arts and Humanities Research Board to create a database of British dialects. The grant holder is Dr Sali Tagliamonte, department of Language and Linguistic Science.
- US$50,000 from Conservation International for the Continental scale mapping of African plants. The grant holder is Dr Jon Lovett of the Environment Department.
- £15,640 from the Department for International Development to research mathematics and science teaching in eight Southern African countries. The grant holder is Mr Fred Lubben, department of Educational Studies.
- £10,250 from Transportation Planning (International) Ltd for traffic management in Dublin. The grant holder is Professor Mike Smith, department of Mathematics.
- US$25,000 from the US Institute for Peace for post-conflict reconstruction in Kosovo and the re-integration of former Liberation Army combatants. The grant holder is Dr Sultan Barakat of the Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit.
