Kel Fidler, who is currently Professor of Electronics at the University of York, began his academic career as a part- time lecturer at Rutherford College, now part of Northumbria University.
He has a wide range and depth of experience in Higher Education, including periods as Head of Department, Pro-Vice- Chancellor and Deputy Vice- Chancellor at York. Prior to that, he was Head of the Electronics Discipline at the Open University and Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering Science at the University of Essex.
Professor Fidler began his association with Newcastle when he studied for his first degree in Electrical Engineering at Kings College, Durham, which subsequently became Newcastle University. He continued with his Doctoral Research in Electronic Engineering at Newcastle. It was while he was researching for his PhD that Professor Fidler worked at Rutherford College (now part of the University of Northumbria) as a part-time Laboratory demonstrator and Lecturer.
Professor Fidler has had significant input into the quality mission at York, which is highly rated nationally for the quality of its teaching.
At Northumbria he will continue his national activities on the Quality Assessment Committee and the E-University Committee of Academic Quality of the Funding Council, the Institution of Electrical Engineers National Council, and international activities in engineering education.
