Trevor Sheldon to be new Head of Health Studies at York
Posted on 12 November 1999
Professor Trevor Sheldon is to be the new Head of Department of Health Studies at the University of York. He takes up his appointment on 1 December.
Trevor Sheldon joined the University as senior research fellow in the Centre for Health Economics in 1993, where he was part of the team developing the national formula for allocating resources to health authorities for hospital and community health services. He was the founding director of the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, established in 1994, which he directed until April 1998. He currently co-directs the York Health Policy Group and is Director of the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences at York.
The Department of Health Studies was formed in April 1996 when the North Yorkshire College of Health Studies joined the University of York. Its expertise in the teaching of nurses, midwives and other health professions complemented the University's strong existing research base in health services which it had established through a number of research centres.
The Department has recently expanded its own research activities with several senior staff appointments and the setting up of specialist centres, including the Centre for Evidence Based Nursing and the Centre for Dental Services Studies. "I am really looking forward to joining the Department for Health Studies, and meeting and working with colleagues." Says Trevor Sheldon. "One of my priorities is to promote the integration of input and activities across the department so that we can make better use of the excellent clinical, research management and leadership skills."
