New research grants totalling £4,587,536 were announced at a meeting of the University of York's Council on 23 February, continuing the trend of rapid research income growth at York.
New research grants totalling £4,587,536 were announced at a meeting of the University of York's Council on 23 February, continuing the trend of rapid research income growth at York.
New grants include:
- £6,000 from the Central Science Laboratory to study the effects of woodland fragmentation and woodland creation on local and regional species biodiversity. The grant holders are Dr Calvin Dytham and Dr Richard Law of the department of Biology.
- ECU 8,000 from the European Commission to study the removal of common environmental pollutants from gas and liquid phase. The grant holder is Professor James Clark of the department of Chemistry.
- £30,000 from the Department for Education and Employment for an international research project on job retention and return to work strategies for disabled workers. The grant holder is Patricia Thornton in the Social Policy Research Unit.
- £60,043 from the Medical Research Council and the Institute of Hearing Research for an evaluation of outcomes from paediatric cochlear implantation. The grant holder is Karen Bloor of the department of Health Sciences and Clinical Evaluation.
- £346,753 from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to investigate the construction of a parallel computer for searching and matching over large datasets. The grant holder is Dr Jim Austin of the department of Computer Science.
