New appointments and new personal chairs at the University of York.
The following people have taken up new appointments at the University of York:
- Professor Derek Attridge, Leverhulme Personal Research Professor in the department of English (previously at Cambridge and Rutgers Universities)
- Professor Richard Bessel, professor in the department of History (previously at the Open University)
- Professor Jonathan Dolimore, professor in the department of English (previously at the University of Sussex)
- Dr John Potter (lead tenor in the Hilliard Ensemble), lecturer in the department of Music. Dr Potter will combine his post with professional performances with the Hilliard Ensemble
- Professor Lawrence Rainey, professor in the department of English (previously at Yale University, US)
- Ms Claire Rees, Director of the Careers Service (previously Careers Adviser at the University of Reading)
The following York staff have been promoted to personal chairs:

- John Fountain, department of Mathematics
- Christine Godfrey, department of Health Sciences and Clinical Evaluation
