The rooms are decorated, the curtains are up and the kettle is on…
Constantine College, the latest and one of the most stylish additions to our campus accommodation, has rolled out the welcome mat for its first new residents.
Students and tutors have started moving in to the £36m development on Heslington East which offers a mix of bright new rooms, kitchen areas and contemporary-style town houses. Student life will be centred on The Forum, a central space for socialising and meeting up with friends – and the college is only a short jog from the impressive sports facilities at the York Sport Village.
But our youngest, newest college also offers the unique chance to have a say in shaping the look and feel of the brand new Constantine community. What charities should the College support? What events should the College hold? How many sports teams will it have?
Vice Chair for Community, Jack Ogilvie, of the Welcome Committee said: “The College buildings are ready and we’ve sorted out the important details - like the plans for the Freshers’ Week. There is still a lot to be done, such as deciding what kind of College we want to be and making sure our students get involved in lots of enriching and exciting activities.
“We are keen to get students working on team projects – everything from volunteering to energy conservation projects. There will be loads of brilliant opportunities for all college members to get involved, regardless of their year of study. We really want everyone to be working together in such an exciting first year.”
Constantine College is the latest phase of a £100m project to create new student accommodation on the Heslington East site. We have also embarked on a major upgrade of our college accommodation on Heslington West.
