“In the Northwest of China I saw the struggles of local people in villages where water was very limited and drought events occurred very often. Every grain of their crops was like a treasure for them. What I love about my job is that it combines classic plant breeding techniques and modern analytical methods to transfer beneficial traits from wild ancestors to modern varieties, to help farmers maintain their yields from drought prone areas in the future.”
