Rachel Cubitt works as Collections Projects Officer for the York Archaeological Trust. This wide ranging role sees her involved in all aspects of managing a large archaeological collection as well as facilitating access for research. Her own research interests are in metal objects and metalworking techniques, especially York’s nineteenth century foundry industry.
“I have always been interested in how objects are made and used. When studying at Bradford I found the module on analysis of metal artefacts and metalworking waste particularly interesting. Since coming to work for the Trust I have been able to further develop my skills in this area further.
York’s industrial past is often overlooked but there are lots of clues about the iron industry still surviving around the city. I’m excited to work on a project with such immediacy to local residents and am keen to get people noticing and valuing the remnants of industrial York.”
