You currently have about 30 trillion blood cells in your circulation, supplying your organs with the materials that sustain life. From oxygen-rich red blood cells to white blood cells fighting infection and clot-forming platelets, maintaining the correct cellular balance in blood is an incredibly complex and important process. Indeed, any sustained imbalance in blood cell production can lead to severe effects on human health. In this talk, we will examine at how blood cells are made, and take a microscopic look at the various components of blood and the essential roles they play in health and disease.
