Bacteria were among the first life forms to be present on the Earth. In this time they have learnt to adapt to live in an incredibly diverse set of environments. This includes both on and inside us. An estimated 100 trillion bacteria call our bodies home and we are only now fully realising how they may effect our digestion, immune system and possibly even our mental well-being. However not all bacteria are happy to co-exist and evolutionary pressures force some to take up arms against us. In this talk I will discuss what bacteria are, their incredible diversity and how they can be both friend and foe.
