Dr. Ruth Purvis uses instruments to measure the chemical composition of the air we breathe. These instruments can be on the ground or in the air in research aircraft.
“I was offered a PhD which involved analysing air samples taken from an aircraft and it sounded really interesting and different. When I began the research I realised that the atmosphere is a really complex mixture of chemicals and a very challenging environment to work in. I love the fact that I am not based in one place. My research lab can be anywhere in the world, which makes my work dynamic and very interesting. When it comes to air quality research, new challenges arise all the time.”
