Naomi Farren’s research focuses on measuring organic nitrogen species in atmospheric aerosols. She uses a two-dimensional gas chromatograph, coupled to a nitrogen specific detector. Naomi is currently investigating the nitrosamines found in London, as there are public health concerns over this highly toxic and carcinogenic class of compounds.
“I became interested in this research as the lack of measurement techniques for organic nitrates means that relatively little is known about the sources, formation and composition of these compounds – to me this seemed like an exciting challenge.”
