Dr. Gemma Wilson is a postdoctoral research associate in nuclear physics at the University of York.
"I had an interest in physics from my childhood, when I was fascinated with astronomy. During my MPhys degree at the University of Surrey, I did a placement at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in nuclear physics, and I have been a nuclear physicist since then. For my PhD, also from the University of Surrey, I studied the structure of nuclei where the number of neutrons is higher than the number of protons, and how the structure changes when you add more neutrons. I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University or York, researching heavy nuclei and how they undergo fission. "
