Jessica Hendy is a PhD student in the Department of Archaeology at the University of York and a part of EUROTAST, an EU-wide group of researchers studying the history and legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Her research focuses on understanding disease and health in the era of the slave trade, and how this period has contributed to health challenges we see today. Jessica chose to become an archaeological scientist so she could combine her love of science with her interest in history, and make exciting discoveries both in the field and in the lab.
