Simon Baker has been based in York since his undergraduate days and was awarded a BSc (2003) and PhD (2006).
“I always wanted to be a photographer – or a car mechanic- until my final year undergraduate project when the science bug bit! I am now a cell biologist (which partially satisfies the photography interests) and my work varies from working in tissue engineering to cancer research. I have developed an interest in how cells of the urinary tract defend themselves against excreted toxins in urine and how these defences protect or contribute to the development of diseases, including cancer. The bulk of my work is funded by York Against Cancer, but this particular project was supported by C2D2. And I still found time to rebuild my TVR!”
